Vacation Week Review

It’s a bit of a down week as “The Grandeur” takes time to enjoy a vacation at home getting ready for the upcoming school year. So for today, we’ll take a brief look at some of the latest stories.
Chase Utley became the latest baseball player to fool us into thinking that someone could actually break Joe DiMaggio’s streak of 56 straight games with a base hit. Nothing against the man from Philadelphia though, his 35-game streak was very impressive earning several hits by sheer effort hustling down the line and finding other interesting ways to some how keep his run going; all this while playing on a team that has failed to win consistently. Will anyone ever break Joe D’s streak? I don’t think so. That record is up there with other great baseball records such as Cy Young’s 511 career pitching wins, Hack Wilson’s record of 191 RBI in a season and Babe Ruth’s career record of 15, 482 hot dogs ate.
Tiger Woods won his 50th career PGA Tour event as he captured the Buick Open this weekend. Another impressive milestone for the greatest golfer of his generation. Will he be the greatest golfer ever by the time he is done? I wouldn’t bet against it.
Coach K. opens the next era in USA basketball. I hope I don’t put the jinx on him, but I truly think the man from Duke U. has the ability to get us back to the top once again. He knows how to win and he gets his players to buy into his system and play for him. He’ll really get the best out of Lebron, D-Wade and co.
