Best Sports Movies

When there are no sports to watch on television, a true sports fan does the next best thing, watch movies about sports. Here are some of the best.
Hoosiers: The best basketball movie ever, period. A movie where every obstacle imaginable is faced. Gene Hackman does an excellent job as a struggling coach who is given a shot with small town team along with an assistant dealing with alcoholism. His best player not wanting to play because of the death of his former coach and having to play bigger schools on their way to a state championship.
Major League: The funniest sports movie that features a team with players from every walk of life. “Wild Thing” Rick Vaughn is fresh out of prison, Roger Dorn is to pretty to get in front of ground balls, Willie Mays Hayes saving a pair of batting gloves for every base he steals, Pedro Cerrano worshiping voodoo in the locker room, manager Lou Brown who was previously working at a car repair shop and Bob Ucker performing brilliant unscripted play by play. Denying this is an all-time classic would be a claim that is “juuust a bit outside.”
Remember the Titans: Denzel Washington is always at his best when he in charge and taking control of the situation which is something he does so brilliantly. In time when it was so hard for so many people to get past the color barrier, these players and coaches came together not only to win football games and but win the war against racism. This movie gives the real Herman Boone, Bill Yoast, Gary Bertier, Julius Campbell and Ronnie Bass complete justice for their heroic actions.
Miracle: Kurt Russell does ever so well to portray the pain and sacrifice those players had to go through to achieve victory, and these college kids pulled off a victory that not only made a statement for hockey but for the United States. The movies shows the struggle that these men faced so well that even though you knew what the outcome was you were on the edge of your seat yelling for support.
Field of Dreams: A movie that represents that purity of baseball. Kevin Costner building a perfect ball field in a see of corn not knowing why and but just that he should. James Earl Joes, Burt Lancaster and Shoeless Joe Jackson helping him understand it all. And ending with one of the most perfect things in life, a father and son playing catch on a perfect summer’s evening.
Rudy: This movie showcases two of the greatest things about football: the passion and tradition of Norte Dame football and the fact the game of football lets even the most undersized player have a chance to experience glory. Rudy Ruettiger symbolizes the determination and dedication of every successful person who was never given a chance.
White Men Can’t Jump: Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes make that lovable odd couple that hate and love each other all at the same. The movie shows that hard life of street basketball and the treachery of hustlers all while taking a satirical look at whether the white ball player can match up with his black counterpart.
Rocky: Sylvester Stallone what courage and sacrifice can achieve in this classic. A boxer who everybody has given up on and is so close to going over the edge. Rocky comes out of nowhere to give Apollo Creed the fight of his life while proving to his wife, trainer and everyone else that he isn’t finished on life yet.
