Minor League Baseball

After an exhaustive time last week covering the NBA Finals and the U.S. Open, “The Grandeur” was ready to chill out with some minor league baseball.
So I ventured up to the northwest corner of Kansas City to watch the T-Bones host the Fargo-Moorehead Redhawks. I’m sure you’ve heard of them, they’re part of the independent Northern League. And they actually give you a pretty big bang for your buck.
Sure they’re a far cry from the Majors or even top level Triple-AAA players but its baseball in a wonderfully simple and pure form. Most of these guys are well out of their college years and into their 30’s. They’ll probably never make it much higher, but they still play the game they love. And judging by the over 6,000 people that filled Community America Ballpark Friday, they have a nice fan base.
And it’s easy to see why they can get fans to come out. They have clean, classically designed stadium, $10.50 tickets that got me eight rows from the field right behind third base and $1.00 hotdogs. Although they still had big league-priced beer at a ridiculous $6.00 a bottle and yet they still buy it.
Anyway the action was good as well. A combined 29 base hits, a 400 ft homerun, three bang-bang plays at the plate, a great catch made crashing into the centerfield wall Aaron Roward-style and when a walk-off double gave the T-Bones a 9-8 win in the bottom of the tenth, it was a night well enjoyed.
So you’ll watch the Majors because you’ll always want to see the best but everyone once in awhile, make to a minor league game, you might enjoy yourself.
