The Government of Sports

With the all the fun that the nation is having with the State of the Union Address and the Presidential Primaries, “The Grandeur” couldn’t resist having some fun with the whole deal. So here we go, The Government of Sports.
President: Bill Belichick. The ruthless Patriots leader has shown the steely resolve to rule over any entity with loyalty and discipline. He knows how to handle the people who serve under him; knows when to hire and knows when to fire. He is a brilliant strategist who would be a brilliant policy maker.
Vice-President: Don Zimmer. A steadying, constant force who rode along with Joe Torre during the great Yankee teams of the late 1990’s. Zim was that rock who kept everything fine just below the surface for New York.
Secretary-of-State: Ron Zook. While his coaching has been consistently inconsistent at Florida and now Illinois, his recruiting has been first class. He knows how to get the best players and he knows how to get him to play for him. He has the grace to charm anyone.
Secretary-of-Defense: Greg Popovich. It’s hard to find a better choice than the former military man. His coaching and his team’s playing exert the discipline of the armed services. The Spurs tough grinding style is exactly what you need when in a foxhole.
Secretary-of-the-Treasury: Billy Beane. No one has done more with the less than the G.M. of the Oakland A’s. He is constantly keeping his team in division contention despite operating on a limited budget. And he continually finds the wonderful players and makes great deals to with his less than endless supply of dollars.
Secretary-of-Education. Phil Jackson. The former Chicago and now Los Angles coaches was known as the Zen Master and for good reason. He had his players read a variety of thought-provoking books and perfected his Triangle offense. His deep, pondering looks on the bench always seemed to be analyzing the best ways to get Michael and Kobe the ball.
