MLB Quarter Mark
We’ve completed the first lap and hit the quarter mark in the Major League Baseball Season with 40 games in the books. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest headlines.
-The Tampa Bay Rays and the Florida Marlins are battling at the top of their divisions. Whoa! When did they start playing baseball in Florida? It will interesting too see how long these two teams can stick around since both are in powerhouse divisions. I guess all that young talent running around down there haven’t quite figured out they’re not supposed to be playing that well.
-The New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers and Colorado Rockies are all struggling. These guys were supposed to be serious contenders and instead are mopping around in the cellar of their divisions. The Yankees are struggling to figure out their pitching while their bats are letting them down. The Tigers went out and spent the money this offseason and bought nothing but inconsistency and the Rockies are shadow of the team that was awesome last September and October.
-Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens still don’t have teams. I really can’t figure this out. Yes, both guys have legal issues hanging over their heads and several other things as well but they can still play. Bonds would be a great DH and Clemens can burn up innings and get wins. As teams start to make playoff pushes late in the summer, they might start to be getting some phone calls.
Josh Hamilton has made a great comeback is a good player. The Texas Rangers centerfield has made a great start to the season after being traded away by the Cincinnati Reds. But more impressive, the guy was a former drug abuser. You should read his story some time, it’s a good one.
-And apparently Jason Giambi wears thongs. He says he does this when he is in a hitting slump. Of course, who doesn’t do that when their having a bad time at the office
