Belichick Got Busted

Oh no! Everybody stop what you’re doing and prepare for the biggest scandal since Eva Longoria started her affair with the gardener on Desperate Housewives. The Patriots we’re cheating and they got caught! One of the greatest teams in the history in the NFL is really no better than a J.V. football team because of this!
Alright, have you caught your breath? Good, now relax and stop the mass hysteria. This is not the worse act in the history of sports nor does it make the Patriots a fraud that only won three Super Bowls because they were videotaping the other team’s signals. Now let’s look at some of the reasons why.
First, let’s these two facts sink for a moment. The Patriots were stealing the other team’s defensive signals. Bill Belichick is defensive minded coach. That means he is getting very little benefit since he is getting zero information from the other team’s offense, the guys he trying to stop. His offensive coordinators are the one’s getting the benefit. So all this talk about his players losing confidence in his ability to game plan for the other team is garbage. The Patriots offense is getting some benefit but Belichick’s persona has a great defensive schemer is intact.
Secondly, people have always cheated in sports and always will cheat in sports. Shoeless Joe and the Black Sox, steroids and all other sorts of stuff. When players and coaches have the ability to cheat, many times they will take it. We get reminded of the old saying “if you’re not cheating, you’re not trying hard enough.” So it is not like New England is the only team stealing signs, they are just the ones that caught. It seems to be that every team has people read lips and stealing signs anyway, just without the video.
Like steroids in baseball, we only ever sure of someone cheating when they got caught. You can’t say that Bill Walsh or Vince Lombardi didn’t steal signs either because you can never prove they didn’t do it. We seem to be in a day in age where we just have to assume that everyone is bending the rules because we’ll never really know if they are cheating or not.
And the Patriots would definitely be a team that would cheat. They are the smartest and most cunning team in the league so is it any surprise they decided to use video. They are also one of the most cutthroat teams in the league. They have player who wants to hold out, they just leave them out in the cold. Remember Deon Branch. The Patriots are going to do everything they can to win and stealing signs is all apart of the game.
And how they handled the situation is another example of them doing anything they can to win. They simply said “oops”, forgot about it and then began preparing for the next game. Belichick’s post conference last week was a fantastic example of man who is has cold has ice to the core. He seemingly said either “it doesn’t matter” or “it’s over” 742 times when answering to reporter’s questions. He knows he only has to answer to Robert Kraft and Roger Goodell and doesn’t care at all about what other people think. Some teams win with great players that play for their fans, their country, their God. Belichick’s Patriots have won by being ruthless and unforgiving while smirking as they rip people’s hearts out. They are the modern day Spartans of football.
So now that the dust is beginning to settle it will probably be no surprise in the off-season when the owners vote to give defensive captains radio sets like quarterbacks have. Problem solved, you can’t steal signs if no one is giving any.
By the way, stop all the talks about the Patriots only having success all these years by cheating. They dismantled those upstart Chargers 38-14 Sunday night. And I’m sure they didn’t have the gall to pull any fast ones just a one week later.
