Hey Mike, How Does It Feel?

So Mike, how does it feel? Are you feeling a little used? Maybe even a little abused? Go ahead and take some time to think about it. That’s one thing you have a lot of now since you surrendered to authorities today ahead of your sentencing next month after you got caught fighting dogs.
Now I know you’re probably a little upset with yourself. You seemingly had it all. A great job running around playing some football, making a lot of money, having your own shoe; all the good stuff a professional athlete loves to have. But I bet the one thing that really irks you is how you got tossed around in this incident. I mean, let’s be honest here. You messed up and the people both trying to help you and put you away straight made you’re their toy to help their own cause.
Now let’s take a look at the people who wish you would go to jail forever. You know those wonderful anti-wool wearing people over at PETA. But let’s make a couple of things clear first. They do have the right to think what the think about animals and fur coats and vegetarianism; it’s nice they have a cause. And what you did to the dogs was absolutely terrible. Truthfully, you really are getting what you deserve by going to the slammer. But the way they went after you after it hit the fan was way out of line.
You see, in this country we call the United States, there is this little thing about “innocent until proven guilty.” It’s pretty simple concept that keeps the government from throwing us in prison before they prove anything. And while, technically, the government is supposed to follow this concept, which they did in your case, the general public doesn’t really have to since they don’t the power to lock you up. But you know, they should anyways, as good citizens who should want to see the legal process run its course.
Unfortunately for you, PETA didn’t really do this. Actually the went in the opposite direction and tried to make you to be the worse person in history. They had signs like “Sack Vick” (real creative) all over the place because they wanted to see you go to jail. They have a crusade to end dog fighting, which is good thing, but they got a little selfish because they were willing to sacrifice your life in order to move that crusade forward. They wanted to throw you to the dogs (pun intended) in order to gain a victory. They didn’t care if you were guilty or not, they pronounced you guilty right of the bat remember, all they cared about was getting a victory. Well, they got their victory and they’re sucking every last bit of pub out of you they can.
Now if PETA using you made you feel bad, don’t worry, the people on your side are using you to. See your friends over at the NAACP and wherever else were behind you all they way for some reason. Now I know it’s their duty to help out the blacks in this country achieve great things and that’s a great cause. But like PETA, they probably didn’t care so much about you the person because they had a chance to promote their cause.
This story about you first broke back in late April. Now there was another story were the NAACP and everyone else came charging along in early April. You might remember it; where Don Imus on his show called the players from Rutgers women’s basketball team “a bunch of tattooed, nappy-haired (not a nice word).”
Now during that incident, everyone called for Imus to be fired immediately for his racially-driven comments. Imus was eventually fired by NBC and it’s hard to argue with that decision because this the 21st century and those kinds of comments show nothing but hatred and ignorance. But here is where the hypocrisy comes in. Less than a month later, you get in trouble and those same people who called for Imus’ head come back along but this time they’re calling for a second chance. See where at one time they called for someone to be axed in heartbeat, this time they wanted forgiveness. They want you to serve your time and let you get back to doing that thing you do. But with Imus, they wanted him out and no talk of a second chance. Now whether Imus or you deserve a second chance is something we’ll just have to figure out in the future. But the sudden change in discipline philosophies kind of makes you wonder whether they care about you or whether just using you to fight their own cause.
See Mike, this is the United States where everyone has an agenda. Everyone wants to push their own cause forward and they just love it when some like you comes along and makes a big screw up. It gives them a great chance to parade around and make a bunch of noise and use people like you as the catalyst. So Mike since your in jail and can’t jumpstart your former team’s offense, don’t feel to bad. You’re jumpstarting the campaigns for people who played you for all your worth.
